Pearlica – 925 Sterling Silver Jewellery

Last updated: March 2026

Your Pearlica jewellery is crafted in certified 925 sterling silver with a premium rose gold or rhodium plating finish. With the right care, your pieces will stay beautiful and retain their shine for a long time. Follow this guide to get the most out of your jewellery and keep your Pearlica Care Promise warranty valid.

Why jewellery care matters

Both rose gold plating and rhodium plating are durable, high-quality finishes — but like all plated jewellery, they can be affected by everyday exposure to moisture, chemicals, and friction. A small daily habit makes a big difference.

The good news: most plating wear and tarnishing can be prevented simply by removing your jewellery at the right times and storing it correctly.

Daily care habits

The golden rule — last on, first off

Always put your jewellery on last, after applying perfume, lotion, hairspray, or makeup. Always take it off first, before bathing, washing hands, or sleeping. This one habit dramatically extends the life of your plating.

After wearing

  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry lint-free cloth after every use
  • This removes natural oils, sweat, and residue
  • Never use paper towels or rough fabrics — they can scratch the plating

Remove before these activities

  • Bathing, showering, or washing hands
  • Swimming — chlorinated pool water and saltwater are damaging
  • Exercising or any activity where you will sweat
  • Sleeping — friction against pillows and sheets wears plating over time
  • Cooking — heat, steam, and food acids affect plating
  • Cleaning the house — cleaning products are highly corrosive to plating

Keep away from

  • Perfume and cologne — alcohol attacks plating
  • Body lotion, sunscreen, and moisturisers
  • Hairspray and dry shampoo
  • Hand sanitiser — alcohol is very damaging
  • Makeup and foundation
  • Household cleaning products, bleach, or detergents

Storing your jewellery

Improper storage causes scratching, tangling, and speeds up tarnishing.

Best practices

  • Store each piece separately in its sealed anti-tarnish pouch when not in use
  • The pouch slows tarnishing significantly
  • Never pile jewellery together — pieces scratch and tangle
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from humidity, direct sunlight, and heat
  • Do not store jewellery in the bathroom — daily humidity is damaging
  • Keep away from open windows or airflow that carries moisture or pollutants

Travelling with jewellery

  • Use the original Pearlica pouch or a dedicated jewellery travel case
  • Keep jewellery in hand luggage, not checked baggage, to avoid temperature extremes
  • Keep each piece in its own compartment or pouch to prevent scratching

Cleaning your jewellery

Plated jewellery requires gentle cleaning. Harsh chemicals or abrasives strip plating fastest.

Safe cleaning method

  • Use a soft, dry lint-free cloth — gently polish in small circular motions
  • For a slightly deeper clean: lightly dampen the cloth with plain water only, wipe gently, then dry thoroughly immediately
  • Allow the piece to air dry completely before storing it back in its pouch

Never use these on plated jewellery

  • Chemical jewellery cleaning solutions
  • Toothpaste or baking soda
  • Ultrasonic cleaners
  • Steam cleaners
  • Rough cloths, sponges, or paper towels

Rose gold vs rhodium — specific care notes

Rose gold plated jewellery

  • Warm, romantic pink-gold tone; slightly softer finish — avoid friction and chemical contact
  • Extra care at high-friction areas: inner ring band, bracelet underside, chain links
  • Rose gold may subtly shift to a cooler tone over time as it thins — natural
  • Remove rings when using hand soap, hand sanitiser, or washing up

Rhodium plated jewellery

  • Bright, platinum-like white shine; harder and more durable than rose gold plating
  • More resistant to everyday wear but still benefits from the same care habits
  • Rhodium can develop a slight yellow tint over time as the silver base shows through — normal
  • Avoid chlorine (pools), which can dull rhodium faster

Skin sensitivity & reactions

  • 925 sterling silver is generally hypoallergenic for most people
  • People with very sensitive skin or nickel sensitivity should check full product material details before purchasing
  • If you notice redness or irritation, stop wearing the piece and consult a dermatologist
  • Reactions are more likely when plating has worn and the silver alloy base contacts skin directly
  • If unsure, wear jewellery for short periods initially and observe your skin’s reaction
